NEWSLETTER
September 2010 Issue 1
Hi All,
Firstly let me open the new term by welcoming everyone back and hope that everyone had a nice summer. I have decided to focus on one topic in this newsletter because of the importance of it……HEALTH and SAFETY. We have contributed to the school for the refurbishment of the toilets (HEALTH) but with regard to the issue of SAFETY, we still have parents who refuse to follow the guidelines on parking or dropping off and collecting children at the school as well as parking on the Moorechurch and Ballygarth Roads.
There were ‘minor incidents’ last year outside the school, do you want a ‘major’ one on your conscience when it does happen? Let me remind you how we suggest it should be done.
Morning: A drop and go system entering the school from the Julianstown side and exiting from the Whitecross side. This does not mean stop….. get out….. have a chat for 5-10 mins or go and stand at the white line and then go! Everything will run smoothly if we all do this and putting the safety of our children to the fore.
Collection: We try to advise all to use the car park in the church grounds. This is really not that hard to do. I do appreciate that parents with infants and young children may not find this a suitable scenario so we try to leave the spaces outside the school to accommodate these parents.
I have also noticed people parking on the footpath on the Julianstown side, therefore, completely blocking pedestrians. I believe this is an illegal offence and ‘will be stopped’.
Parking on the Moorechurch and Ballygarth Road is appalling and thankfully to date the residents have been very tolerant in this regard.
Last year the Gardaí were present on a number of occasions and the situation improved, why not make a little effort to do your best and improve the situation before the Gardaí have to do the same again.
So the question is, am I leading by example? or am I inconsiderate to residents around the school and breaking the law by parking on the footpath and creating an unsafe surrounding for your children. Only you can improve these conditions.
